'RIVOLVER' ALBUM NOTES

In 2007, the Rivergods commemorated their 10th Anniversary as a band by releasing a free online CD release of b-sides, rarities, near misses and live tracks.

Titled Rivolver, the free CD-length release features, in roughly chronological order, lost recordings from many of the band’s classic lineups and studio projects over the years. Save for a few early cassettes distributed as demo tapes or at early shows, none of the songs on Rivolver had been “officially” released before.

Rivolver includes some of the band’s earliest primordial musings from 1997, an early version of their song “Paul Revere” which later appeared on their sold-out debut CD Capsule from 2000, as well as cuts from their shelved 1998 510 Main Street EP, which found the band starting to dive deep into their burgeoning country-roots-tinged sound and Nancy Brossard performing with the band for the first time. An upbeat track commissioned by Mitchell College in 2001 called “Ocean’s Edge”, a lost seven-minute epic ballad (“Slow Fire”) off of 2003’s Time Has Come, and several blistering live cuts from the Rivergods’ “Farewell for Now” show in June of 2005 round out the CD.

The Rivergods played their first live show at the now-defunct Pool Hand Luke’s in New London, CT in March of 1997. Since 1998, singer/songwriters Ben Parent and Nancy (Brossard) Parent have been the nucleus of the Rivergods’ extended musical family, enlisting the talents of a variety of support players to round out the band’s country-roots sound. While the lineup of the Rivergods has meandered over the years, it has always been to add nuance and new flavor to the music, while keeping the spirit of the band’s music intact.
